TDOC Statewide Release Paths
The Tennessee Department of Correction operates or oversees state and contracted institutions across Tennessee. No TDOC prison was verified inside Claiborne County. A person sentenced in a Claiborne court may remain at the county jail for a time, then move to intake or a state facility elsewhere. Search TDOC Former Offenders
The official TDOC FOIL search covers people currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. Search by TOMIS identifier when available because it is less ambiguous than a name. Otherwise use the committed last and first names, then compare birth and sentence details. FOIL may show a photograph, status, location, offense, sentence information, parole-hearing status, and release information.
- Enter the TOMIS ID, or search by name when the identifier is not known.
- Open the matching detail and confirm identity from the displayed non-sensitive facts.
- Record the exact status and each date label. Review every sentence row because cases can run together or one after another.
- If the needed release field is absent, request the sentence calculation, release authorization, or archived record from TDOC.

TDOC asks for requester contact information, the full offender name, TOMIS number, date of birth, and a detailed record description. Ask whether TOMIS ID and date of birth are sufficient before transmitting any sensitive identifier.

TDOC quotes archive-search costs after processing and directs requesters not to prepay. Its separate public-record route asks users to complete the designated inspection or duplication form sections and submit them by email. A FOIL result may be enough for a basic public status check. A records request is more useful when the calculation, authority, or historical sequence is needed.
Claiborne Has No State Prison
No physical TDOC prison was identified in Claiborne County. That fact must be read narrowly. Claiborne cases can still produce state records, and state-sentenced people may be held temporarily at the county jail before transfer. The statewide facility page represents a custodial system serving the county, not a local prison campus.

On a matching detail, preserve the TOMIS ID, name and aliases, photograph, current status, location or supervising status, conviction offenses, sentence effective and expiration information, release eligibility information, parole-hearing data, and flags. Do not translate an unfamiliar label into a simpler claim.

Concurrent sentences run at the same time. Consecutive sentences run one after another. Those arrangements can produce several rows and dates. Read the detail as a whole. If a label and narrative conflict, retain a copy of the result and ask TDOC to explain the official sentence calculation through its records process.
TDOC Release Authorization Records
TDOC Policy 511.03 identifies the operational checks behind a state release. Its workflow addresses identity, TOMIS number, release date, release type or authority, sentence and detainer review, destination, transportation, notice, property, trust funds, identification, and acknowledgment. Some operational or protected details may be redacted from a public copy.
The policy is useful because it names the record and process to request. It does not guarantee that every field is open. Ask for the public release authorization and the related sentence summary. If a detainer redirected the person, request the destination or receiving agency where releasable. A state prison transfer or release should not be inferred from a county roster change.

Claiborne TDOC Supervision After Release
A person on parole or probation is out of institutional custody but not necessarily discharged from the sentence. FOIL is the first public check. The field office can orient a properly identified public status inquiry. It is not a walk-in inmate locator, and private supervision plans are not public search material. The Tennessee Board of Parole makes parole decisions. TDOC calculates eligibility and provides field supervision. A granted Board decision also does not prove that physical release occurred because a certificate and an approved release plan may still be required.

Read TDOC Release Dates Carefully
Tennessee distinguishes a Release Eligibility Date from a sentence expiration date. The Board describes RED as a calculation based on the court sentence and offender classification. It can mark a point when parole consideration may become legally possible. A hearing, a favorable vote, and actual release are separate events. Detainers, a new sentence, disciplinary credit changes, rescission, or recalculation may keep release later.
For some sentences affected by law taking effect after July 1, 2024, sentence-reduction credits can affect the percentage that must be served before parole eligibility without moving sentence expiration. Keep FOIL labels intact. Do not call either field an assured projected date. When a person disputes a date, request the TOMIS sentence calculation from TDOC rather than asking Claiborne County Jail to alter a state computation.
VINE is useful for future notifications, while FOIL and TDOC records provide the status and calculation context. A VINE notice reflects the reporting custody event. It cannot rule out another hold or a same-day move to another custodian. Compare it with TDOC's official record.
Board of Parole records add decision context. A scheduled hearing shows only that review was set. A grant may still require an approved release plan and a parole certificate. For the prison exit, seek the TDOC release record and match its date to FOIL. For supervision in Claiborne County, use the New Tazewell field office. This keeps hearing, authorization, physical release, and supervision distinct.
A Claiborne court judgment can identify the sentence and case, but TDOC performs the state calculation. County staff cannot change a TOMIS field.
